18th Sept.2020:

  ROCKS!
To the considerable surprise of nearby residents (some of whom were awakened at 0530 yesterday when works commenced) the MUA began to line the Laxey River banks with large boulders:

boulders

Engineers in charge explained that the work was 'temporary,' and 'intended to reinforce the banks,' while several locals expressed robust fears that filling the river with even more obstructions will raise the water level during flood conditions and achieve the reverse effect from that intended.

The work has now ceased (Sat. 19th. Sept), and the last wagonload of rocks was taken away - for unknown reasons.

No doubt the subject will be addressed at the 'drop-in' meetings next week.

Note:
pics 4/5/6 . These illustrate the concern of nearby residents that the capacity of the under-road tunnel will not be sufficient to accommodate the downflow from the culvert when full.

Chris has made inquiries and was told that modification of the under-road tunnel 'is included in the next phase of works.'
